Knifeman stripped off and threatened members of public

A Motherwell man stripped off and brandished a knife at passers-by in Hamilton town centre.

Richard Hunter (30), of John Muir Way, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court and admitted chasing John Kirkland through streets in the town while armed with a blade on December 29 last year.

Hunter, who was on bail at the time, also admitted shouting abuse, taking off his clothes and brandishing a knife at members of the public. The court heard he refused to put down the weapon when ordered to by police officers.

Sheriff Ray Small said he would need to find out more about Hunter before passing sentence and called for background reports. Hunter must return to court on October 7.
