‘Hypocrite’ pastor won’t settle debt

A BUSINESSMAN has accused a church pastor of hypocrisy for failing to settle a £2,000 debt.

Mark Ralston, founder of Motherwell’s Hope United Church, hasn’t paid for materials he got while running a roofing firm.

He’s ignored a court order obtained by supplier Billy Lang who claims he’s been owed the money for at least 18 months.

Mr Lang, of Robert Lang and Sons in Clydesdale Street, Mossend, said: “It’s been one lie after another with this man. He is a hypocrite and shouldn’t be standing up preaching to people on a Sunday when he acts in this way.”

Mr Ralston ran MJR Roofing before concentrating his efforts on building up his church in Orbiston Street, Motherwell.

Mr Lang said the roofer was a regular customer, but problems developed in spring last year when he was unable to settle his account.

Mr Lang eventually went to court and a sheriff at Hamilton ruled in his favour. Mr Ralston was ordered to pay £1,800 plus £300 expenses, but has still not done so.

Mr Ralston refused to discuss his debt.
