George Fellows, the husband of Motherwell and Wishaw MP Marion Fellows, died on Sunday following a long battle with cancer at the age of 73.

The retired accountant was diagnosed with sarcoma last year and was moved to St Andrew’s Hospice in Airdrie last month.

Mr and Mrs Fellows had been married for 47 years and he leaves three children and three grandchildren.

Mrs Fellows said: “No words can adequately express the sense of loss and grief my family and I feel since the death of my beloved husband George in St Andrew’s Hospice.

“We want to thank everyone at the hospice, staff at University Hospital Wishaw, our wonderful home support team, our Macmillan nurse, our district nurses and The Logan Practice for their professional and personal care of George.

“Many people have been praying for George and I want to express my appreciation for this and for the cross party support my family and I have received at both Westminster and here at home, which has been wonderful.

“I want, also, to publicly thank my constituency team for the exceptional support they have given me since George was diagnosed with Sarcoma last year.

“They will continue to provide support to constituents on my behalf over the next few weeks until I return to Parliament to continue to serve the people of Motherwell and Wishaw.”

Mr Fellows’s funeral will take place at South Wishaw Parish Church on Monday at 1.30pm.
