Motherwell and Wishaw MP Marion Fellows joined a Primary 7 class at Ladywell Primary during their Heart Start, CPR training.
Marion said: “I wrote to all schools in the constituency following a recent meeting with the British Heart Foundation at Westminster.
“I was very concerned to hear that survival rates from out of hospital cardiac arrest was very low, only one in ten. We discussed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) as part of first aid training for pupils as the BHF want to create a Nation of Lifesavers.
“The ability to learn CPR will give young people the skills and confidence to know what to do in the event of cardiac arrest and I support the ambitions of the BHF to improve UK survival rates.
“Ladywell Primary was one of the first schools to introduce the Heart Start programme almost eight years ago and I would urge all other schools to follow suit.”
Marion also met with head teacher Patricia Ashworth and visited classes throughout the school to see all the good work that is taking place.
