Fighting Scots Gym in Mossend launched it’s first summer camp on Monday to give local youngsters something to do over the school holidays.
Every afternoon from 1.30-3.30pm the Adamson Street facility welcomes 10-16-year-olds right through until the new school term starts again in August .
Each session costs £3 and there is no need to book with football on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and boxing or boot camp on Tuesday and Thursday.
It is hoped that in time the summer camp will transition into the creation of both an amateur boxing club and football academy operating from the gym.
All the teams belonging to Mossend Boys’ Club have already indicated they would wish to use the gym for training facilities.
Last month dozens of local people took part in a challenge to run 60km in six days to help raise funds for the expansion plans.
Gym operator Frank Gilluley said: “We want to welcome all young people to come during the summer holidays.
“We are running the summer camp every day and hope we can help to play our part in keeping local youngsters active for the next few weeks and then beyond.
“It will take a while for all the money to come in from the 60km challenge, but I thought it was a great success.
“I’m not just talking financially, but in terms of bringing the community together as a unit to try and achieve something to benefit our younger people.
“I am delighted so many people were willing to step up and give us their support and now it just comes down to finalising the plans and how exactly we take everything forward.”
