Motherwell couple Peter and Ann McCarron have been celebrating their golden wedding and say they are still “perfectly happy”.
Peter and Ann have lived in Motherwell all their lives and knew each other a bit when they were children.
When they got older the pair were on separate nights out with friends when they met in Brandon Street and Peter plucked up the courage to ask Ann out on a date.
Ann admits that by the second date she knew he was the one and they were engaged in 1963.
They were to be married two years later by Monsignor Conroy at Motherwell Cathedral.
Peter worked as a labourer at Clydesdale Tubeworks, while Ann was on the assembly line at Metrovics.
They have three children, Peter Jnr, Angela and Tracy, and the family has grown with the arrival of seven grandchildren and subsequently three great-grandchildren.
The family gathered together at the Electric Bar for a party to celebrate the occasion.
Ann said: “It was a wonderful night, we had such a great time.”
Peter was originally from the Globe and Anne from Rose Street, and they now stay in Milton Street.
They admit they don’t have many interests outside of their family.
Ann said: “With all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren we don’t have much time for anything else, but we are content with our lives and remain perfectly happy.”
