Traffic on Mossend’s Main Street is to be restricted to one-way for three months to allow gas main replacement works to be carried out.

The work is being carried out by Forward Construction Ltd on behalf of gas pipeline operator Scotland Gas Networks (SGN) which is investing around £245,000 in the project.

SGN has been working in close consultation with North Lanarkshire Council and the programme will help maintain a safe and reliable gas supply.

Work will start on Monday, February 6, and last for around 12 weeks. To reduce disruption, the project will be carried out in two phases and there will be a number of traffic restrictions in place.

Phase one will be a five-day road closure on Bairdsland View from February 5-10 and phase two will continue onto Main Street which will be closed to eastbound traffic between the roundabout at Bairdslands View and the junction with Unthank Road from February 10 until May 17.

Traffic will be able to travel westwards, towards Bellshill town centre with diversions in place for cars going the other direction, via North Road, Hamilton Road, Crossgates and Calder Road.
