A shop in Motherwell lost thousands of pounds after becoming the victim of a telephone scam.
On Friday, July 29, the business was targeted by fraudsters who called claiming they were a representative of the sheriff court.
The caller claimed a warrant had been issued against the shop due to an unpaid bill and that if the sum of £2,500 was not paid immediately it would rise by £850.
This resulted in the worried shopkeeper paying the sum.
A police spokesperson said: “Businesses are advised to ask that any phone call that is received is followed up with correspondence.”
Anyone with information should call 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 in confidence.
