A football fan has been accused of putting fellow supporters in danger by holding a lit flare in a stand at Motherwell’s Fir Park.

The incident is said to have happened on the day of the League Cup clash with Rangers on July 16.

Fabrizio Ilari (23), of Castlemilk, Glasgow, is accused of culpable and reckless conduct.

He appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court on a charge which alleged he “held aloft a lit flare which was emitting smoke and heat whilst surrounded by a crowd of football supporters, placing yourself and others at risk of harm”.

Ilari denied the charge and will stand trial in December.

Sheriff Vincent Smith granted bail, but banned Ilari from attending any regulated matches in Scotland ahead of his trial.
