Public asked to give their input to new 'Craig masterplan

The former steelworks is now home to the likes of a college, sports facility, 400 houses and a pub, but a downturn in the economy means the scale of the original development is not considered feasible.

Ravenscraig Ltd are to undertake a review of their masterplan with the intention of producing revised proposals and the council wants to find out the public’s opinion.

Shirley Linton, the council’s head of Planning and Regeneration, said: “Council officials will be involved in the process being undertaken by Ravenscraig Ltd.

“However, in order to assist in that exercise it is considered that it would be useful for the council to carry out a short consultation exercise with the local community and other stakeholders in order to gather what would be desirable for the site.

“The exercise will be carried out by holding workshops and drop−in sessions, in addition to meetings with key interested parties.

“Those views will then be passed to Ravenscraig Ltd’s team, for their consideration.”

The cost of the exercise will be less than £20,000, coming from the Planning and Regeneration budget, and a report is expected to be published in December.

Ravenscraig Ltd says it is happy to receive input from any interested parties as it revises the masterplan,

Director Nick Davies said: “Ravenscraig Ltd is in the early stages of pulling together a team to create a new masterplan for the Ravenscraig site.

“It is our intention to listen to the opinions to all stakeholders, including the community, councillors, and businesses before developing our proposals.”
