NLC looking to enhance main route

North Lanarkshire Council has drawn up plans to enhance the corner of Windmillhill Street/Camp Street near Motherwell Health Centre.

The project has been developed from last year’s ‘Motherwell Charrette’ public consultation event.

Councillor Paul Kelly, depute leader of the council, said: “The aim is to provide a more welcoming and attractive space for the many people who use the area and the health centre.

“The plans look impressive and will go a long way to improving the appearance of the town as Windmillhill Street is a main route through the town centre.”

The proposal includes: demolishing the two brick planters on Windmillhill Street and removing the trees within the planters; removing the pine trees and shrubs in the planters on Camp Street and replacing them with low plants and shrubs; providing new LED lighting; removing the bollards in the footpath; providing new seating, including benches with tables, to replace the existing benches; new tree and shrub planting; and installing a wooden screen on the health centre side of the site to create a sense of enclosure.

The proposal can be viewed online and at Motherwell Library from October 22-31.
