Motherwell flats evacuated after gas leak fears

Emergency vehicles rushed to Motherwell’s Merry Street after residents raised fears about the smell of gas in a block of flats.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 10.53pm on Tuesday, September 8 to reports of a smell of gas from within a flat on Merry Street, Motherwell.

“Four fire appliances and a specialist vehicle were mobilised to the scene, where crews worked to make the area safe.

“A total of ten people were evacuated from properties within the flat building as a precaution.”

Police Scotland confirmed there were no arrests made in relation to this.
