The Airbles Road church received a grant from waste company Viridor to pay for the work, necessary for it to continue its ongoing use as a community facility.

The main contractor for the project was SG Joinery and Motherwell and Wishaw MSP Clare Adamson was invited to carry out the opening.

Pastor John Murfin said: “The Elim Christian Centre would like to thank Clare for officially opening our new kitchen as well as the community for the support we received.

“We look forward to our continued support within the community with residents and organisations.”

The church itself provides local initiatives to assist the local community, with the building being used by a variety of community groups for all ages.

This takes in Elim Befriending Services to Lanarkshire Childcare Services, while other groups who utilise the facilities include baby ballet, operatic and drama groups and keep-fit sessions.

Margaret Brown, manager of Lanarkshire Childcare Services, said: “Lanarkshire Childcare Service (Scotland) first moved into the Elim Christian Centre in August 2014.

“We’ve settled into the church and been made very welcome. We use the kitchen facilities everyday and we have benefited greatly from the new updated kitchen.

“We have had positive feedback from our parents, children and staff on the improvements that have been made.”

Ms Adamson added: “There has been a wonderful transformation to the kitchen in what is a very busy and well attended community hub.

“I am sure that the young children from Lanarkshire Childcare Services and the rest of the church community will enjoy this new facility.

“Congratulations to Viridor for supporting this endeavour.”
