A UNIQUE and historic piece of Motherwell’s past will be put up for auction next week.
The old YMCA building in Brandon Street is going under the hammer at Future Property Auctions in Glasgow for a guide price of £175,000 plus.
The building was designed by well-known local architect Alexander Cullen in 1898 and is the only remaining example of Jacobethan architecture.
Owner Derek Blues, managing director of Motherwell based recruitment company Staffplus, said the decision to sell had been taken with regret.
He said: “We have no choice but to sell. We had hoped to move our staff in there but we’re moving in a different direction now.
“It is with a heavy heart that we’ve taken this amazing structure to auction.”
