A Motherwell school rector this week praised the ‘best ever’ exam results attained by its senior pupils.

Braidhurst High rector Derrick Hannan said fifth and sixth year pupils gained more Higher Grade in this year’s SQA exams than ever before and that fourth years sitting the new National examinations performed excellently.

But he reserved particular praise for pupil Nathan Adams who gained a Grade A band 1 for Higher Mathematics - despite only being in third year.

Mr Hannan said: “Nathan joined from Logans Primary three years ago and they identified him as being especially able in numeracy. We provided a specially tailored programme and Nathan in fact sat Standard Grade mathematics at the end of his second year.

“He is a lovely quiet young man who is obviously extremely talented in mathematics and will now study Advanced Higher.”
