North Lanarkshire Council this week published its report on the consultation process carried out as part its controversial plan to merge Taylor and Our Lady’s High Schools.

The council proposal to merge the two schools on a new site at Ravenscraig has provoked widespread opposition.

The report, made available on the council’s website, does not contain any formal recommendations but details the responses it received during the consultation.

Council officials will now consider those responses before drawing up their final report, with recommendations, to go before councillors later in the year.

Education Scotland has also published its report on the plan to merge the schools on a new ‘state of the art’ campus.

It does identify potential educational benefits which could be achieved by the merger, but also highlights issues it feels the council should take into consideration before a final decision is reached.

Committee convener Jim Logue said: “I am pleased that Education Scotland has recognised the potential educational benefit of this proposal. It also make a number of recommendations which will require to be incorporated into the final report.”
