The show teaches pre-schoolers about where their food comes from, but also about how to care for the environment and its inhabitants in different seasons.

For the upcoming winter series, the programme will be showing children what happens after glass is put in the bin and how important it is to recycle.

Viridor’s advanced glass recycling facility in Newhouse, which opened in September 2015, delivers cutting-edge glass sorting technology and ensures that more than 99 per cent of incoming material is recycled making it the perfect location for the filming to take place.

The £25m facility is one of Europe’s most advanced, providing material to the Scotch whisky and bottling industries.

This is a key part of the Scottish circular economy managing over seven million tonnes of recyclates and resources each year, of which 2.4 million tonnes are recycled.

This reduces reliance on imported materials, and ensures glass collected through household kerbside recycling in Scotland is used in Scotland.

John Elliot, process operations manager at Viridor, said: “It was fantastic to welcome CBeebies to Newhouse as it is so important to teach children about recycling from a young age and to encourage these habits from the beginning.

“Viridor’s facility at Newhouse is contributing to Scotland’s circular economy and the investment we are making to the centre is not only helping drive glass recycling but it is also a real boost for the Lanarkshire economy fast becoming an important base for Scotland’s green sectors.”

The episode will be broadcast on CBeebies on Friday, March 16, at 5pm.
