ANYONE with old winter coats are being urged by Wilkinson in Motherwell to donate them to help raise extra funds to keep elderly people in the community warm this winter.
The Wilkinson store on Brandon Parade is urging its customers to help support their charity of the year, Age UK.
The initiative sees collection points being put into Wilkinson stores this week for customers, and staff to donate their old winter coats to be sold on and loved again, through Age UK shops, with all profits going to the charity’s vital winter warmth projects.
Wilkinson will be taking part in this initiative on a nationwide basis, giving their customers and staff the opportunity to donate until January 31.
Each winter, at least 250 elderly people die needlessly from the effects of cold weather, but with Age UK’s support older people can get benefits and grants to help with heating costs; get access to groceries during bad weather and gain some important human contact, for those who would otherwise have none.
Celebrities have already pledged their support, with Helen Mirren and Stella McCartney among others donating their old winter coats to help the cause.
Donate your old winter coats now, to your local Age UK branch, or at Wilkinson stores nationwide.
