Three park benches relocated in a bid to curb anti-social behaviour in Bellshill were ripped out by vandals - before the concrete had even set.
The benches, located behind the Tesco store on North Road, were apparently used by yobs to climb on and throw items into nearby gardens.
North Lanarkshire Council decided to move the benches ‘a few yards away’, hoping the issue would be resolved.
However, the benches were pulled out and names carved into the setting concrete between 4pm on Thursday and 9am on Friday.
A NLC spokesman said: “We moved the benches due to complaints of anti-social behaviour, and they were being relocated through the Local Development Programme.
“So it is disappointing that the new area was vandalised before the concrete had even dried. The damage has now been repaired.
“I would urge anyone who witnessed this mindless act to call the police with any information.”
