Two men were left needing urgent medical treatment after an apparently unprovoked attack in Strathclyde Park at the weekend.

The pair, aged 33 and 35, had been enjoying a night out at the Alona Hotel before the incident around 1am on Sunday.

While waiting on a taxi outside, they were approached by a group of males unknown to them who started attacking them.

The horror attack left the pair with a catalogue of injuries. One of the victims sustained bruising and swelling to the head, face, torso and legs, as well as the serious injuries to his head, while the other suffered slight head injuries and a possible fracture to his heel.

PC Garry Cook, Police Scotland, said: “This appears to have been a particularly savage attack on two men who had simply been enjoying a night out.

“This was a brutal group assault which has resulted in both men sustaining a number of injuries. One of them is unfortunately severely injured.

“Officers from Wishaw CID are currently conducting enquiries into the incident, and I would appeal to anyone who was in the area of the Alona around the time of the incident, and who may have saw the attack, or anything suspicious in the park at that time, to contact Police Scotland on 101.”

Alternatively, information can be reported to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
