Times & Speaker readers have been thanked by police for their support following an appeal regarding a sexual assault.

We reported last week that a 20-year-old woman was attacked on Kirkland Street, Motherwell, around 9.15pm on Tuesday, May 13.

The appeal was uploaded onto our website and shared through our Facebook and Twitter sites.

And within 24 hours, it had been viewed over 20,000 times on our Facebook page alone and shared countless times across our social media platforms.

PC Kirsteen Salen, Police Scotland, said: “We rely heavily on our local press to get the message out to members of the community, from which we always get good feedback.

“This week we were overwhelmed by the support from the public in relation to the witness appeal put out for the reported sexual assault on Kirkland Street.

“For it to be viewed by 20,500 people and shared by so many locally is outstanding.

“We thank each and every reader of both the Times & Speaker and its social media for their ongoing support.

“Enquires are still ongoing into this incident and we would once again urge anyone with any information to give us a call on 101.”
