Police probe gunman claim

Police are investigating a claim that a woman was threatened at gunpoint in her Uddingston home.

It’s alleged she was confronted by a man who entered her flat in North British Road near the village centre yesterday morning (Tuesday).

Police said the woman wasn’t hurt and they are pursuing various lines of inquiry.

The incident is said to have happened shortly before 11am.

A police spokesman said: “We received a report that a woman had been threatened by a man who entered her home.

“It was reported that the man was in possession of a firearm. However, no firearm was discharged and no one was injured.

“Extensive inquiries are being made to establish the circumstances of this incident and officers are following a number of lines of inquiry.”

It’s understood the woman is around 40 years old and lives with her daughter.

A nearby resident said there had been a significant police presence after the alleged incident, adding: “Officers were asking people if they’d seen or heard anything or if they had CCTV which might have picked up something.

“Certainly no one’s heard a gun going off, but there is a suggestion the woman was struck with the weapon and has suffered bruising to her face.”
