Police believe murder victim was deliberately targeted

A murder enquiry has been launched after a 51-year-old Wishaw man was stabbed multiple times outside his home in the early hours of Sunday morning.

At around 12.30 am Kevin McGuire was in Morar Street when he was attacked by at least two men who got out of a black Nissan X-Trail car which had been driven into the street by another man.

He sustained serious injuries after suffering a number of stab wounds and was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Wishaw where he later died.

Following a post-mortem examination officers launched the murder enquiry and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

They believe Mr McGuire was the intended victim of the knife attack.

Officers are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the area and carrying out house-to-house enquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

Specially trained family liaison officers are with Mr McGuire’s relatives.

Detective Inspector Carol Craig, of Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Teams, said: “This was a violent attack which cost Mr McGuire his life.

“This does not appear to be a random incident and I am content that Mr McGuire was the intended victim and this was indeed a targeted attack.

“Nonetheless I am appealing for anyone who was in the area and has any information that will help us identify the group of men responsible.”
