Police are warning drivers to be on their guard after Lanarkshire was hit by a spate of high value car thefts over two days last week.

Ten vehicles with a combined worth of £152,000 were stolen from locations across the county including Bellshill and Bothwell Castle Policies.

Models snatched included a Jaguar XF Sport, a Mazda 6 and a BMW Z4.

An Audi Q7 was taken from outside a house in Princes Gate in Bothwell Castle Policies betwen 10.30pm on Wednesday and 5am the next day.

Then around 6.30 on Thursday evening a Range Rover Sport was stolen from the car park of Bellshill’s Strathclyde Hilton Hotel. A locker in the hotel had been forced open and the car keys taken.

Other thefts occurred in Moodiesburn, Stepps, East Kilbride, Wishaw and Coatbridge.

Detectives from Lanarkshire CID are appealing for help from witnesses, particularly individuals or car dealerships who might have been offered vehicles for sale.

Sergeant Ross Aitken said: “I would remind householders to be mindful as to where they keep their house and car keys, particularly overnight.

“Do not leave them near your front or back doors or windows where thieves can easily see them and reach them. Keep them hidden away – don’t give thieves a helping hand to steal your hard-earned possessions.

“Ensure your car is locked and if you have a security device ensure it is armed.”
