Motherwell FC rocked by lockdown row

Motherwell Football Club is at the centre of an embarrassing lockdown row after police broke up a party at the home of one of its players.

Police Scotland confirmed that officers were called to the home of defender Jake Carroll in the early hours of Sunday, June 28 - following complaints from fed up neighbours in their Larkhall street.

Party-goers were told to go home, including Carroll’s team mate Charles Dunn.

It is claimed that this was not the first time that Carroll had broken lockdown and created a noise nuisance with pal listening to loud music and indulging in anti-social behaviour.

Chief Inspector Lex Baillie said: “We can confirm that we attended a property at Aquitania Crescent in Larkhall around 1am on Sunday, 28 June following a complaint of noise from the property. “Officers spoke to the occupants encouraged them to go home. The gathering dispersed a short time later.

“The regulations remain that people should only leave the house for very limited purposes, for example for basic necessities, for exercise or recreation, for medical needs or travelling for work which cannot be done from home.”

The Motherwell Times has learned that one neighbour also complained to the club to blow the whistle.

A club statement read: “We have spoken to those involved and accept their explanations. Neverless we have reminded of our players of their responsibilities to the Scottish Government and their neighbours.”
