AN investigation has been launched following a ‘high value’ theft from commercial premises in Newhouse this week.

Police are appealing for information after large amounts of copper and copper cabling was swiped from a property currently under construction on Edinburgh Road.

The incident is said to have taken place sometime between 9.30pm on Sunday and 7am on Monday.

It is believed the culprits used a vehicle to remove the items and officers are hoping potential witnesses will come forward.

Officers are especially keen to speak to passing motorists who may have noticed suspicious activity.

Detective Sergeant Norman Laurie, based at Wishaw CID, said: “The persons involved would have taken some time to carry out this theft and perhaps would have been visible to motorists using the nearby M8 and Newhouse junction.

“A number of people contacted Police Scotland that evening to report debris blowing in that area.

“Motorists may also have noticed vehicles parked on the verge at the slip road from Newhouse onto the M8 westbound.

“I would ask that these people get in touch please.”

Anyone with information that may help enquiries is urged to call Police Scotland on 101.

Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be called free and confidentially on 0800 555 111.
