A bride and groom were geared up for a wedding with a difference on Sunday, surrounded by friends, family ... and cars.
Car-daft Stevie Goldie and fiancee Cheryl Docherty, both from Motherwell, tied the knot in front of 2000 fans – not to mention 250 wedding guests – who were visiting Scottish Ford Live at Knockhill.
In a first for Scotland’s National Motorsport Centre in Fife, the ceremony was conducted on the actual race track.
Mechanic Stevie laughed off the suggestion of a friend that he should get married on his much-loved racetrack, but when Cheryl heard, she thought it was a brilliant idea.
“I thought it would be fun and really different!” she said.
The wedding was coordinated by Event Team member Rory Butcher, a man who is used to going at more than 200mph in his British GT Championship Aston Martin.
“Rory was absolutely brilliant!” said Stevie and Cheryl.
While being married with so many people around was “a little bit nerve-wracking”, both Cheryl and Stevie had a fantastic day. And Stevie made sure he advertised his hobby to everyone else, sorting out friends to take all of the guests for a spin round the track.
“I had a lot of friends helping me out, particularly my big mate Stevie Cowie. as well as my mum and dad and I have to thank them for all their support,” he said.
For Cheryl too it was a day with a difference – as a professional wedding photographer she enjoyed being on the other side of the camera, while friend Scott from Premier Photography had to work!
