Council chiefs this week assured parents of pupils at a Motherwell high school that their children were never under threat of a ‘massacre’.

North Lanarkshire Council issued a statement after a Dalziel High pupil apparently made an ‘ill-judged comment’ in an online forum.

A daily newspaper claimed today (Tuesday) that the schoolboy threatened to ‘commit a massacre’ at the Crawford Street school.

It further reported that concerned parents had kept their children off school on Friday as a result.

However, the situation was downplayed by the authority, with a spokesman insisting to the Times that the comment was never meant to be taken seriously, and was removed soon after being posted.

After being alerted to the post, staff at Dalziel spoke with the pupil concerned and decided no further action was required.
