It’s proposed to create a further 70 parking spaces next to the college buildings.

An application has been lodged with North Lanarkshire Council. A supporting statement admitted the parking situation needs sorted after the merger of Motherwell College with its Cumbernauld and Coatbridge counterparts. There are now 24,000 students and 1,000 staff.

The report stated: “Staff and students are now travelling frequently between all campuses due to the nature of the courses and structure of staffing.

“During term time there are daily issues with people illegally parking within the grounds. The college introduced various management techniques to address these, including security guards carrying out regular patrols.

“We also run a park and ride system in conjunction with Ravenscraig Sports Facility who allow the students to park in their car park. This has helped

ease the car parking problems, but the underlying problem lies with not having enough bays.”
