Mossend SNP Group presented a 1,195 signature petition to Culture NL’s head office in Coatbridge calling on Mossend Senior Citzens’ Centre to be saved from closure.
Secretary Marie Keeper said: “Local people are angry the facility is being proposed for closure when it was not known it could be used by the wider community.
“Each submission is a wish to retain the Senior Citizens’ Centre as a community facility for the use of all.
“We want CultureNL to reconsider closing the facility and grant a stay of execution, whilst advertising and marketing it as a community centre for all, had this facility been branded correctly, it most certainly would not be facing closure.”
Among those who signed the petition were MPs Marion Fellows and Phil Boswell, MSP Richard Lyle and councillors Marina Lyle, Jim McGuigan, Shahid Farooq, Harry Curran and Harry McGuigan.
