McDonald’s Kate Walker was named runner-up in the Woman Franchisee of the Year category at the 2015 NatWest Encouraging Women into Franchising (EWIF) Awards in London.
The awards aim to celebrate the achievements of female franchisees across the UK and Kate was nominated in recognition of her achievements during her successful ten-year tenure at McDonald’s and as a leading Scottish businesswoman.
Kate opened her first McDonald’s franchise in Bellshill in 2004 with husband Kenny and since then has gone on to add four more to her portfolio including taking over the Motherwell restaurant in December, a fitting end to her most successful year yet.
Kate said: “It has been an absolute pleasure being part of the EWIF awards this year. I am honoured to have been nominated and have met some incredible women who are great role models for businesswomen across the UK.
“I would not have been nominated for this award without having such a strong and committed workforce and I am grateful for their hard work and commitment to the company.
“I’m keen to continue to promote the advantages and rewards of becoming a female franchisee to those who are thinking about a career change and haven’t considered it as an option.
“I also want to continue to encourage women across Scotland to realise their business potential.”
