Motherwell residents will have the opportunity to work out all day, every day after PureGym announced it is to open a branch in the town.
Motherwell Shopping Centre owners Chester Properties have been trying to attract a client to take the top floor of the old Asda building, nearly a decade after the supermarket moved to Watson Street, and they have finally succeeded.
PureGym markets itself as ‘the UK’s leader in affordable fitness’ and the new 17,512 sq ft facility in Brandon Parade South is expected to open over the summer with the creation of 20 jobs.
Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, it will be filled with over 220 pieces of equipment as well as offering over 50 free classes per week.
PureGym property director Angela Crawshaw said: “The PureGym Motherwell will provide local residents with a fully equipped gym that offers not only exceptional value for money at an affordable price, but membership without a contract that ties you in for a long period of time.”
Chester Properties William Gear hopes PureGym will help with the ongoing strategy of bringing life to the centre at night.
He said: “We are delighted to welcome PureGym to Motherwell.
“We set ourselves the target of attracting a health-related or leisure service provider for this premium space, and PureGym fits the bill perfectly.
“They will help us achieve our strategic goal of bringing the shopping centre to life at night after normal shopping hours.
“PureGym will also make a significant contribution to the local economy with up to 20 new jobs, and the spin-off from the footfall they will generate.”
With Pure Gym occupying the upper floor of the old Asda store the only part which remains un-let is the ground floor unit on the corner of Brandon Parade and the south car park.
However, the Times & Speaker understands this is currently under offer from an existing Motherwell business looking for bigger premises.
Meanwhile, the new £1.3 million KFC drive-thru restaurant is set to open on Saturday.
The restaurant, based in the south car park near the West Hamilton Street exit is serving up around 50 full and part-time jobs.
Motherwell South East and Ravenscraig councillor Gary O’Rorke will cut the ribbon at 10.30am and there will be celebrations all day including a candy floss amchine and children’s entertainments.
