A work experience placement paid off for Braidhurst High pupil Glen Robertson when he gained an apprenticeship with Arnold Clark in Motherwell.

Glen spent a week earlier this year in Arnold Clark’s body repair workshop and his maturity, enthusiasm and commitment to work impressed his supervisor there.

He was given a glowing report and was invited for testing and a formal interview with GTC in Glasgow which is the training academy for Arnold Clark apprentices. He secured the position of apprentice body repairer at the Motherwell branch, becoming the first North Lanarkshire school pupil to secure full-time employment with Arnold Clark under their new Work Experience Pre-apprenticeship Scheme.

Glen said: “My personal experience of a work placement with Arnold Clark exceeded my expectations. My work experience week was invaluable in offering me first-hand experience of a career I was interested in pursuing. I thoroughly enjoyed my placement and never imagined it would have led to the offer of an apprenticeship just a few months later. I am very grateful for the support shown to me from the school, GTG and Arnold Clark.”

Work Experience Coordinator Laura Ballantyne commented: “We are proud of Glen and this achievement, securing a full-time position of employment following a successful work experience placement.

“We are grateful to all employers for the work experience opportunities offered to pupils during our placement week. Without them it would be very difficult to support and prepare pupils with the essential skills for learning, life and work.”

Rector Derrick Hannan commented “We are all delighted for Glen. He received a glowing report and it is just great to see a young person finding a work position to suit his ability and aspirations.”
