Nearly a year after being wrecked by vandals, a memorial to the Caterpillar workers who undertook one of Scotland’s most fiercely fought trades union campaigns has been re-dedicated.

Former Caterpillar workers and politicians gathered for the occasion at the site of the memorial in Tannochside.

The memorial to the 103 day occupation, triggered by the company’s shock announcement of the closure of the plant in 1987, was destroyed 11 weeks after its unveiling last March.

Local councillor and former Caterpillar shop steward Bob Burrows said: “Thanks to the unstinting support from local business, trades unions and residents we have been able to rebuild the memorial.”
