One of Europe’s largest wood products companies has opened a new Scottish HQ in Bellshill for its growing forest management business.

EGGER Forest Management, based in Bellshill Industrial Estate and employing seven people, is part of the Austrian-owned EGGER Group which also operates chipboard factories in Ayrshire and Northumberland.

Delighted Coatbridge, Chryston and Bellshill MP Tom Clarke made a return visit to the site where he planted a Scots pine to mark the official opening.

Two years ago he launched a nearby wood recycling yard operated by sister company EGGER Timberpak.

He said: “I was delighted to be invited back by EGGER to officially open their second new venture in my constituency.

“A couple of years ago it was a recycling business that works with local councils and major manufacturing companies to reduce the amount of wood going to landfill – and I’ve watched with great interest as the number of staff employed there rose from six to 17.

“Given Scotland’s dependence on forest industries, I have equally high hopes for EGGER Forest Management and took great pride in planting our country’s newly adopted national tree – a Scots Pine – in the grounds of their new office and marking their arrival in an appropriate manner.”

Established last year, EGGER Forest Management offers a wide range of services to farmers and forest owners keen to maximise the value of their woodland assets.

They are already advising a number of Scottish landowners on issues such as grants, the preparation of forest plans, planting and harvesting as well as obtaining the best price for their timber.

The Bellshill operation is managed by Simon Hart, who said: “We are still a relatively new operation and most of the team has only been with me since the beginning of the year.

“Until now we have been operating out of Hexham in Northumberland – where EGGER operates one of Europe’s most advanced wood panel manufacturing plants employing 550 people.

“But a lot of our new business is coming from Central and Southern Scotland, so Bellshill is the perfect location to service existing clients as well as develop stronger links with forest and woodland owners looking for a fresh approach from a small hands-on team that has the financial backing of a major European force in wood-related industries.”

EGGER is a global family company founded in 1961 in Tyrol, Austria, and currently has 17 production sites in Europe and 23 sales offices worldwide.
