Plans for 100 houses on a site in Motherwell with a controversial past have gone on display in the town.
Members of the public were invited to learn more about the proposed Tinkers Lane development during a consultation event at the Moorings Hotel last week.
The former bus depot site has been an empty eyesore for several years and plans by Sainsburys to build a supermarket there were turned down by North Lanarkshire Council. Last year housebuilder Barratt was given planning permission for 66 homes there, but nothing has been built and now Springfield Homes has revealed plans for a bigger development.
Sales director Tricia Malek said: “This is an exciting opportunity and our range will be well suited for the local market.”
The new plans emerged as residents in the area launched a campaign to stop 100 houses being built in the grounds of the former Strathclyde Hospital.
They say the land was gifted to the townspeople by the Duke of Hamilton and shouldn’t be developed.
