Parents of children who attend Taylor High in New Stevenston are preparing to demonstrate outside Motherwell Civic Centre for the second time.

A previous demonstration took place in April on the date of a learning and leisure committee to express opposition against North Lanarkshire Council’s plans to amalgamate Taylor with Our Lady’s High in Motherwell.

It is proposed the new school would then be housed at a new £36 million campus on the former steelworks site at Ravenscraig along with Bothwellpark High.

Parents have hit out at the plans as they fear the land earmarked for the school is contaminated and are not convinced by the council’s claims that it has been cleaned.

A consultation exercise was completed in May and the council is currently going through the responses with a final decision being made at a future meeting of the learning and leisure committee.

The protestors plan to set off black balloons at 4pm on Friday, however they have abandoned plans for a slow drive after being advised against it by the police.

A mass will also be held at Carfin Grotto on Thursday, August 21, at 7.30pm which the Bishop of Motherwell Joseph Toal has been invited to attend.
