UP to 15,000 marchers are expected to converge on Bellshill this summer if plans by the Orange Order to hold their annual Central Scotland parade in the town are given the green light.
The County Grand Lodge for Central Scotland has submitted an application to North Lanarkshire Council over its plans to hold the parade on Saturday, July 9.
Venues for the parade are organised on a rota basis and the event was scheduled to take place in Bellshill last year. However it had to be moved, to Wishaw, after police and council officials said the ongoing roadworks being carried out in Bellshill town centre meant it could not be held in safety.
However with those works now almost completed organisers say they don’t see any problems this time round and expect the event to be given the go-ahead.
Details of the parade routes through the town and venue for the rally - likely to be the playing fields at Bellshill Academy - are in the process of being finalised.
