Bakery creates a sweet treat that is '¨fit for millionaires

Kerrs Bakery in Motherwell has created a special edition of its millionaire's shortbread to celebrate the ML postcode being named Scotland's third luckiest when it comes to creating National Lottery millionaires.

An average of two millionaires have been created in ML each year since the Lottery began in 1994, and the luxury treat is fittingly baked using real gold leaf.

Kerrs sales executive Dionne Wilson said: “When we heard how lucky the local area was we thought there was no better way to celebrate.

“We are famous for our millionaire’s shortbread so it was a hard job to make it any better, but we put our heads together in the bakery and created an extra special recipe that even includes real gold leaf.”

It isn’t just individuals winning big, the entire community benefits from the money raised by The National Lottery.

In 2015 95 grants worth £2,732,092 were distributed to National Lottery funded projects in North Lanarkshire.

These included: Motherwell North Parish Church to support disadvantaged and vulnerable families and Bellshill and Mossend YMCA to run a health and wellbeing project to help young men and women of secondary school age.
