Asda Motherwell admin process manager Pamela Marshall was one of the first students to complete the company’s Retail Honours Degree programme and has now graduated from Middlesex University.

Pamela completed the three-year fully-funded programme while retaining her full-time job and even while studying for her degree in retail operations received a promotion.

She said: “I was delighted when I got accepted to join the Retail Honours Degree programme, but it wasn’t easy.

“I have been working for Asda for nine years, since taking a part-time job when I left school, and during that time I have worked in several departments and have been a section leader for George clothing.

“I even got promoted while on the degree programme and I have my studies to thank for that. The confidence you gain from understanding the business you work in is a pretty enlightening thing.

“Aside from my promotion, I really gained a better understanding of Asda from taking part in the degree programme and from writing my dissertation.

“If you’re thinking of applying to the Retail Honours Degree programme, be prepared to work hard but to be rewarded with excellent experience.

“You need to have good time management skills and be motivated to succeed, but will be rewarded with colleagues and friends for life.”
