Police are hunting a gang of six men after a man was left with a string of injuries following an unprovoked attack in Motherwell.

The 39-year-old victim is receiving specialist eye treatment after the incident, which occurred around 2.45pm last Tuesday (August 11).

He was kicked and punched to the head and body after being approached by the group as he walked on a path between Dalriada Crescent and Milton Street.

The incident unfolded after one of the group pushed him as they walked past.

Police say the victim was then struck on the head from behind, and punched and kicked as he curled up on the ground.

He managed to run off in the direction of Milton Street, and was taken to Wishaw General by ambulance for treatment.

The suspects are described as being aged between 16 and 20, white and were wearing hooded tops and tracksuit bottoms.

The male who initially pushed the victim and engaged him in conversation was wearing a light blue hooded top, is thin and spoke with a local accent.

PC Garry Cook, Safer Communities officer, said: “This was a senseless and unprovoked attack during the day which left the victim with a number of injuries.

“The footpath is fairly secluded, nevertheless, anyone nearby may have heard the commotion, or perhaps witnessed the suspects leaving the scene.

“I would appeal to anyone with information on the attack to come forward.”

Information can be reported by calling Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
