An MSP this week blasted moves to appeal against the decision to award compensation to workers at the former Woolworth store in Bellshill.
Ex-staff at the store were told last month that they had won their five-year fight for enhanced redundancy compensation following the closure of the Main Street store in 2008.
But the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) has asked for permission to appeal against the Employment Appeal Tribunal judgement that administrators were wrong in refusing to pay out to staff in smaller stores such as Bellshill.
Mr Lyle said: “I am astounded and will be contacting the relevant government minister about this.
“These workers deserve full recompense.”
Former store manager Sharon Wells added: “It’s very disappointing that having gone through the whole process there’s now a chance that we might not get our money after all. We’ll just have to sit tight and hope.”
