A PLAN to build a new road through greenbelt land in Bellshill which was put on hold last year has been brought forward again - and now includes a proposal for a major international railfreight park.
Local residents reacted angrily to the proposal by P D Stirling, operators of the Mossend Rail Head, to run a new road through land bordered by Carnnbroe Road to the A8.
People in the area complained that this would take heavy goods vehicles too close to their homes and following a series of meetings developers agreed to withdraw their application for planning permisison pending a rethink.
But now the proposals include an extension to the existing Mossend Railhead and the development of a rail-linked distribution park, to be accessed via a new roundabout on the upgraded A8 and a new bridge over the proposed M8 motorway.
The plans will go on show at a community consultation event in Bellshill Cultural Centre on Saturday, from 1pm to 5pm.
But residents’ group member Sharon Hailstones said: “There was concern about the original development but this is even worse in terms of its effect on the amenity of the area.”
