The family of Newarthill teenager Joe Wilson have thanked everyone for their kind thoughts as he was laid to rest.

Taylor High pupil Joe (17) collapsed on Thursday, December 15, following a heart attack and rushed to Wishaw General where he was put into a chemically induced coma.

Unfortunately he failed to recover and died five days later - a rosary took place at Sherry’s Funeral Parlour last Friday evening and his funeral was held the next day at St Francis Xavier in Carfin.

Joe, of Carroll Avenue, is survived by parents Alan and Veronica and younger sister Angela, who released a statement.

It reads: “As a family, we are deeply shocked and saddened at the death of our wonderful and deeply loved son Joseph.

“We are deeply grateful for the prayers and thoughtfulness of so many friends in our community and parish and especially the teachers, pals and colleagues of Joseph at Taylor High School.

“As a family we have taken great comfort from the heartfelt messages from so many people – old and young as well as the kindness of strangers.”
