LANARKSHIRE is poised to stage the Robert Burns World Federation Lasses Lunch in the year the county is gearing up to celebrate its people and its history.
The Lanarkshire Association of Burns Clubs (LABC) will host the prestigious event in the Shawlands Park Hotel, near Larkhall, on Sunday, May 12, when Scots Makar and Lanarkshire lassie Liz Lochhead will be the guest speaker.
And to help the LABC promote the event, the Supercounty campaign - spearheading the Celebrating Lanarkshire 2013 initiative - donated £400 to the cause.
LABC president Patricia Leslie said: “LABC were thrilled when the Lanarkshire association was chosen to host The Federation’s prestigious annual Lasses Lunch, especially during this special year of Celebrating Lanarkshire.
“Not only does Lanarkshire get the opportunity to welcome ladies from all over Scotland but we’re delighted that the Scots Makar will be our guest speaker.
“The organising committee are elated and working exceptionally hard to make the 2013 event one to remember.
“I would like to thank Supercounty for highlighting opportunities and helping us celebrate in a special and memorable way.”
John Scott, head of Supercounty, added: “Liz Lochhead features in our Hall of Fame section on the Celebrating Lanarkshire 2013 website. She is a well respected Scottish poet and playwright – who better to be the guest speaker at the Lasses Lunch.
“For LABC to work in partnership with Liz Lochhead will truly celebrate Lanarkshire and its people. I am delighted that Supercounty could contribute to this wonderful event.”
Tickets are priced at £24.50 and are available by contacting secretary Kay Blair on 01698 882499 or email@example.com
