Motherwell couple Ernie and Iris Holloway celebrated their diamond wedding last month.
Despite being in the same year at Dalziel High they didn’t know each other and only got together due to their shared involvement in the Scouts when they met at a sporting event.
Ernie was involved with 5th Motherwell, eventually rising to the role of area commissioner, while Iris was part of 7th Motherwell.
They were married in Holy Trinity Church in Motherwell.
Ernie was an apprentice engineer before becoming a lecturer at Motherwell College, while Iris took over her father William’s grocer’s store in Mossend.
Ernie was also councillor for Coltness for many years, standing down in 2007.
The couple have three children, Mark, Carol and Joyce, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The family came together at the Bentley Hotel to celebrate 60 happy years.
