Motherwell dancer Sean Downes laid down a marker as he targets a sixth world title by winning the under-17 boys category at the All Scotland Irish Dance Championships in Glasgow Royal Concert Hall at the weekend.

The Our Lady’s High pupil returns to the concert hall this weekend for The Sesh dance competition, before heading to Boston for the World Irish Dancing Championships on March 22, where he has enjoyed success in the previous five years.

His mum Marion said: “The two boys who are likely to provide his stiffest test in Boston were both competing and Sean beat them so hopefully that bodes well for the World Championships, and at the very least lays down a marker to the opposition about the form he is in.”
