Although the diminutive French hatch shares much with its Peugeot 108 and Toyota Aygo stablemates, the C1’s bold new exterior look shares more with recent arrivals such as the firm’s new Picasso people carrier.

On sale in July, UK buyers will be able to choose from three trim levels with prices ranging from £8,245 for the entry-level Touch to £11,935 for the range-topping Flair.

Available with three and five doors and powered by a range of newly-developed petrol engines, buyers will have the choice of a five-speed manual or a five-speed clutchless manual transmission.

Following on from the recent launch of its electric up!, Volkswagen has announced details of its next new eco-themed model, the e-Golf.

Like with its city car, Volkswagen is adopting the policy of using a conventional car as the basis for its electric power Golf.

The German car maker is claiming a range of 118 miles after a full charge, while top speed is an acceptable 87mph and the zero to 62mph sprint takes a brisk 10.4 seconds.

And just like the electric up!, the e-Golf can be charged overnight from a domestic power outlet or via a professionally installed wallbox in as little as eight hours. A suitable DC supply can charge the car to 80 percent in just 35 minutes.

Order books are open now at 24 specialist Volkswagen dealers ahead of June deliveries, with the car priced at £25,845 on the road (including £5,000 government grant) or £30,845 without.

UK spec for the five-door only model is comparable with SE specification, with the addition of two-zone climate control, front and rear parking sensors and satellite navigation, with an eight-inch colour touchscreen.

The firm’s British arm has responded immediately to complaints that the fastest Leon ever simply didn’t look crazy enough, thanks largely to its muted choice of colours.

Seat UK has reacted with a shockingly orange bodyshell wrap, covering the original finish and protecting it from damage, as well as giving the Leon Cupra’s stunning lines a bit more to shout about.

It’s not confirmed yet whether or not the wrap, which could be done in other colours, will become a dealer-fit option, but we understand that the plan is to make it happen.

While Seat UK investigates the possibility, if you love the new look, send them a tweet to let them know.
