Hibernian 0-2 Motherwell: 'Well gaffer Graham Alexander praises his troops' endless energy

Goals in each half from strike duo Jordan Roberts and Devante Cole gave the Steelmen a deserved win – and their second clean sheet in 72 hours after the 0-0 draw at St Mirren on Wednesday – to move onto 32 points from 31 games, still in ninth place but now seven points clear of second bottom Kilmarnock

“Brilliant, carried on from where we left off on Wednesday,” Alexander told the MFC website. “I thought the commitment, energy and togetherness that we showed on Wednesday was evident here from minute one.

"We know we’ve got the quality to score goals and win games but it has to be on the back of what we do with all the basics.

"And today was a perfect example of that. Two fantastic goals, really well worked and we were hard to beat and solid and at all times I look at my team and they’re always together.

"It’s great that they’ve took (sic) that on from Wednesday because that was the challenge to get that consistency.

"That’s the consistency that we need week in, week out and if we get that then we know we’ve got the quality to win games.

"Hibs are a real good club, good manager, good players and they’re third in the league for a reason, because they win games.

"I thought we deserved that win today. I thought the players were brilliant in how we competed and I think we had other chances, certainly first half to build on our lead or take the lead a little bit earlier.

"I can’t remember Liam (’Well goalie Kelly) having to make too many saves in that period.

"And then when they (Hibs) had sustained pressure because the boys were spent we made a couple of subs. We changed it a little bit tactically but apart from one opportunity I think right in the middle of our goal, which was just a mistake from us, I thought the players were magnificent.

"And they left absolutely every bit of energy from their bodies on that pitch and that's what it takes.

"I thought it was a great day for Motherwell as a club today.”

Motherwell’s next match sees the host fifth placed Livingston in the league next Saturday, kick-off 3pm at Fir Park.
