November 5 fireworks display at Strathclyde park is cancelled

North Lanarkshire Council has confirmed that its flagship firework display at Strathclyde Park won’t take place this year.

The annual event, which attracts thousands of people has been cancelled due to coronavirus.

Councillor Michael McPake, Convener of Environment and Transport committee explained: “It’s with some sadness that we’ve had to take the decision to cancel the fireworks display for this year.

“It’s certainly not something we have taken lightly and we know that many people will be disappointed, but the safety of our residents is our priority.

“We simply cannot organise events such as the fireworks display which attracts large numbers of people and where physical distancing isn’t possible.

“Nearer the time will be work closely with colleagues in Scottish Fire and Rescue to ensure that fireworks safety messages are promoted to encourage people to behave responsibly.”
